The following is a list of what types or forms should be in the multivitamin you purchase.

Vitamin A: Retinol (good for vision) Retinoic acid :(helps other body functions) Carotenoids :Beta-Carotene (anti-oxidant) Vitamin A Palmitate

Vitamin B1 :Thiamin Hydrochloride (HCl) (Thiamin)

Vitamin B2: Riboflavin (Riboflavin) Riboflavin-5-phosphate (activated form)

Vitamin B3: Niacin (Nicotinic Acid or Nicotinate) (ok for lowering cholesterol) (Niacin) Inositol Hexaniacinate (no flushing of the skin and lowering cholesterol) Niacinamide :(nicotinamide) (good for diabetes or arthritis)

Vitamin B5: Pantothenic Acid (joint and adrenal support) -Calcium Pantothenate Pantethine :(lowering Cholesterol and Triglyceride levels) -most active form

Vitamin B6: Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (HCl) (Pyroxidine) Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate

Biotin : Biotin Biocytin

Folic Acid: Folate/Folic Acid Folinic Acid (5-methyl-tetra-hydrofolate) (most active form) Tetrahydrofolate

Vitamin B12: Cyanocobalamin (most common) (Cobalamin) Methylcobalamin (active form) (best form) adenosylcobalamin (active form)

Choline: Choline Bitartrate Choline Citrate Choline ChloridePhosphatidylcholine (also found in Lecithin) (good form)

Inositol: Inositol monophosphate

Vitamin C :Ascorbic Acid (most common form and inexpensive)
Buffered Form of Vitamin C (avoid those with sodium in them)
-great for sensitive stomach. Ester C -great for sensitive stomach

Vitamin D: Vitamin D2 (Ergocalciferol) Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)

Vitamin E :d-Alpha-tocopherol d-Alpha-tocopheryl acetated-Alpha-tocopheryl succinate

Vitamin K :K1 (phylloquinone) K2 (menaquinone)

Caution: Don't take Vitamin K if on blood thinners: Coumadin and Warfarin being the most common.

Boron : Chelated boron Boron Citrate/Aspartate Sodium Tetraborate Decahydrate (for arthritis)

Calcium : Chelated Calcium Calcium Citrate/Gluconate/Lactate/Orotate/Etcetera/Ascorbate
Calcium Fumarate/Malate/Succinate/Aspartate
Microcrystalline Hydroxyapatite

Caution: Some studies show substantial amounts of lead in the following: Calcium from Dolomite, Bone Meal, Oyster Shells, and Calcium Carbonate (unrefined, example chalk).

Chromium : Chromium Picolinate (best to increase muscle mass)
Chromium Polynicotinate Chromium Chloride Chromium-enriched yeast

Copper : Copper Sulfate/Picolinate/Gluconate/Amino Acid forms

Note: Copper should be taken separate from a multivitamin, because of interactions with other vitamins and minerals.

Iodine : Iodine from Kelp Iodine Caseinate/Etcetera

Iron : Iron bound to Hemoglobin/Myoglobin (Heme bound) better
absorption Ferrous Sulfate/Fumarate (non Heme bound) low absorption

Note: Iron should be taken separate from a multivitamin, because of its interactions with other minerals.

Note: Not much is know about this element yet. I Don't recommend this in a multivitamin, until more research is done.

Vanadium : Vanadyl Sulfate Vanadate
Vanadium Citrate/Fumarate/Malate/Glutarate/Succinate

Zinc : Chelated Zinc Zinc sulfate
Zinc Picolinate/Acetate/citrate/glycerate/monomethionine

Caution: Don't take more than 100mg/day, because it will
depress the immune system.

 

I trust this list will be helpful. It took me 6 months of my own research to find companies that met the qualifications I was looking for. My general rule is if it passes the Multivitamin criteria above then most other products the company carries are credible.
